Sound Estate – “Talk It Out”
-I don’t approve a lot of dance pop, so when I do it’s because it’s SO GOOD I couldn’t say no. This track from Sound Estate has some amazing soundscapes that intersect well with an intense beat. The whole production feels like it brings together sounds from the 70s through the modern day with highlights of a range of danceable styles. It’s the kind of song that you want playing while you’re on a dancefloor, surrounded by fog machines, lights, and that… mood. This is such a cool track I feel like I get lost in it every time I press play. Check it out if you like to move.

Aqoye – “Looking At The Door”
-The moment I clicked play on this track, I was excited to learn more about the artist. Imagine my surprise when I learned that Aqoye is a self-produced artist who is relatively new at this gig. I’ll tell you it doesn’t sound like that! This artist has a real gift. Everything from the beat to the uptempo energy, the vibe of the song invites the listener right into the moment. I’m not a lyrics expert, but I think this is about the experience of realizing you’ve made bad choices and you just look at the door knowing you need to get out. If that’s true and music is Aqoye’s way out, I can say this was a great choice. It’s only a matter of time before we’re hearing tracks like this at the big festivals; this is a sound that is on the rise.

Ricky Poole – “Cheating On Her Phone”
-There’s an aggressive beat to this track that works perfect. Whether you call it dance pop or maybe even pop rock, there’s a vibe here that I think will find a serious following. I even find the tone on the guitar to be perfect for the saucy attitude of the track overall. The lyrics cut through, a justification for leaving and an end to a relationship. Rather than bitterness, though, this song is an anthem for moving on. There’s a perfect mix of production polish with this raw, sincere feeling in the composition. If I ran a college radio station, I would definitely play this regularly. That’s the sort of mood that I get from this work… it’s polished enough to deserve coverage but it’s got a gritty authenticity that makes the listener take notice. It’s not “just another” pop rock track… it’s got bones to it. This one is worth checking out, for sure.
