Open Road Folk Music – “Sunny Days”
-I can’t quite put my finger on who this lead vocal reminds me of, but it’s someone like Gregory Alan Isakov. It’s rich, deep and abiding, causing the listener to lean in and really listen. The acoustic guitar is crisp and engaging. The duo harmonies are delicate, offering a delightful compliment to the lead. The combination makes for a thoughtful folk sound that is both comforting and encourages the listener to connect. It’s equally good for meditation as it would be for being on in the background while you enjoy a cup of coffee and just relax. This is wonderful music and a great example of what we mean when we say we feature indie folk.

    Culture Kid – “Kitchen Sink”
-There’s something about the easy going acoustic style here that captured my attention right away. Once the vocal enters, a sort of narrative expressiveness, I was hooked. The closer I listened, the more I was interested… and when the harmonies entered for the chorus, I melted. “If only love wasn’t so hard to find…” It’s such a sincere, almost confessional style of lyrics that I’m certain people will connect with it. If you are a fan of sweet folk harmonies, then this is a must-listen track. I find it completely endearing and such a brilliant, calming force. We could use more of this in the current cultural milieu, that’s for sure.

Eric Liu – “Tents on the Pavement”
-This is a captivating recording that grips the listener right away… what would you say if you wrote a letter to your younger self? Liu tackles this question right from the start, highlighting the “war inside” his head. If you’ve ever struggled with any type of mental health, this song is absolutely for you. I appreciate the sincere lyrical work that seems to reflect on what it means to be a songwriter, seeking success but not sure if you can make it. It reminds me of the sentiment from Roosevelt’s iconic “man in the arena” speech; there’s a cost to taking a shot on your dreams. But if you don’t, you’ll never really live. Liu reflects on this theme in the context of the music industry. If this track is an indication of the songwriting power and prowess, Liu definitely has a shot. Give it a spin and share with a few friends… it’s good.
