Here at the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), we’re stepping up to meet the growing challenges left by federal rollbacks – we’re restoring meadows and floodplains for climate resiliency, safeguarding water quality, and saving threatened salmon. We’re also a beacon of hope in other ways.

As funding for arts organizations, documentary filmmakers, and public broadcasting is slashed, SYRCL remains fiercely committed to producing the Wild & Scenic Film Festival – a world-class platform for environmental and adventure films where activism is inspired.

SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival provides a trusted forum for documentary filmmakers’ stories of everyday heroes fighting for the well-being of their communities and exploring the wonders of the natural world around the globe. The educational films we curate for local students feature exciting visual stories that spark curiosity and passion for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) in the next generation.

Most importantly, this festival reminds us that we are not alone and inspires us to take action. While SYRCL staff, volunteers, and members are working on building a resilient Yuba watershed, Wild & Scenic showcases hundreds of stories of people who also value clean air, safe drinking water, and a livable planet.

That’s why I’m reaching out again. Donations sustain the year-round work required to put on a Festival of this size. Your special gift today will help us:

    • Maintain a dynamic in-theater film experience for thousands of students in Nevada County and beyond.
    • Create an audience base across North America for hundreds of inspiring documentaries through the On Tour program.
    • Elevate the voices of citizen scientists, researchers, and indigenous and community activists who are grappling with issues – climate change, land and water pollution, biodiversity loss – that are intentionally ignored by Congress and the White House right now.

Wild & Scenic is a cherished community event in Nevada County that draws thousands to our rural town centers and businesses nestled within the Sierra Nevada mountains. Also, because of our On Tour program, it’s a valued resource for hundreds of other organizations that use it for community building and raising local awareness of pressing environmental issues.

Please help us keep this vital forum alive – for the hundreds of filmmakers committed to this work, for the 100+ organizations across the U.S. who use Wild & Scenic to mobilize community action, and for the inspiration and education here at the Wild & Scenic Flagship Fest every February.

By donating to SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival, you are supporting hope, action, education, and inspiration. Please make a special gift today.

For a wild and scenic future,

            Aaron Zettler-Mann, SYRCL Executive Director

Eric Dunn, Wild & Scenic Film Festival Director

P.S.: Your contribution helps to ensure that the Wild & Scenic Film Festival has the resources to continue to keep the projectors on for audiences today and for years to come. Please donate now, even if it’s a few dollars a month.
