    Essential Machine – “Waiting”

There is an interesting dynamic with this Pittsburgh rock act. They have an Arcade Fire quality to them in how they sermonize while still rocking. In “Waiting” we find the act pushing back on a world on fire. They have a bit of a garage rock quality we dig and they balance the movement of the song with the patience of the lyrics. Sign us up as “waiting” for all the new music this band has to offer. The climax solo of the track is absolutely killer as well.

    La Prada – “Precious”

We dig the AC/DC style guitar intro to this one. It adds an urgency that carries the track to a near combustible finale. We were reminded of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s in how the lead singer delivers and writes both clever lines which even the most seasoned songwriters will envy. There is also a cool touch of groovy ’60’s psychedelia that we absolutely love. This is a band that can play in any space and genre and be firmly the best act on the ticket.

    FLEECE – “Chequebook”

This one is as dance inducing as it is scorchingly critical of consumerism. “Chequebook” is a nice introduction into one of the key buzzworthy bands of recent memory. The band gained some notoriety with their cleverly constructed satirical “How to Write an Alt-J Song”. However, make no mistake in calling this act a joke. Their clever lyrics are tightly constructed while musically they create a swelling wall of atmosphere that bolsters their indie credentials. We love this one and look forward to hearing more from the exceptional Canadian four piece.
